With over 10 years of experience as an instructor and her background as a scientist, Filippa has developed her own movement methodology.
Functional Pilates Scientist’s Approach combines 5 key disciplines; Pilates, Physics, Anatomy, Research and Education.
After completing a Bachelor in Science with honours, Filippa worked as an analytical scientist where she developed her strong research principles.
This subsequently led to successful presentations at international science conferences as well as published work in the Biomolecular journal Biochimica et Biophysica Acta.
Post her science career Filippa shifted gears. A new focus became evident when, in her daily life she was unable to move efficiently due to pain. This led her to seek out a movement modality that looked at form and function in order to facilitate rehabilitation.
After trialling various movement methods Filippa found Pilates. Within a very short space of time she felt the benefits and began quite quickly a journey to become pain free. Here is where the scientist kicked back in because she needed to understand why and how she had done so. This led to completing her teacher training courses and her current role in the Pilates industry as a rehabilitation specialist.
Filippa has mentored other Pilates teachers and provides professional development and ongoing training to others within the industry.
To maintain current understandings with regards to pain management, pathologies and rehabilitation, Filippa attends Master classes with leading Physiotherapists and seminars and conferences with the Neuro Orthopaedic Institute.
Filippa’s personal interest in Neuroscience, brain function and neuroplasticity contribute greatly to her methodology and teaching practises. This enables her clients to fully trust that she is up to date with current research and rehabilitation methods.
